A psychiatrist once told me early in treatment, “Stop trying to make me like you,” and what a sobering and welcome smack in the face that statement was. Yet somehow, every day of my life is still a campaign for popularity, or better yet, a crowded funeral.

You just do it. You force yourself to get up. You force yourself to put one foot before the other, and God damn it, you refuse to let it get to you. You fight. You cry. You curse. Then you go about the business of living. That’s how I’ve done it. There’s no other way.

You don’t need to make your tastes a self-conscious statement about who you are. Just unapologetically like the things you like.

Here’s an idea, how about the way to try and get guys to notice you, is to stop trying. To let go, of the idea of trying. What I mean is you don’t have to let go of what you want, or let go of the thing that you wanna have. But this feeling of trying, this feeling of what can I do to change myself to get people to notice me is kind of a tough one, because the you kind of start to get obsessed with the external, then you start to think about what other people want, from me, and how can I change to get what I want.
